What are the material characteristics of plastic storage boxes
Common materials for plastic storage boxes include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer (ABS), etc. Different materials have different characteristics:
1. Polypropylene (PP)
Good heat resistance: PP plastic storage boxes have good heat resistance and can withstand high temperatures above 100 ℃.
Common materials for plastic storage boxes include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer (ABS), etc. Different materials have different characteristics:
1. Polypropylene (PP)
Good heat resistance: PP plastic storage boxes have good heat resistance and can withstand high temperatures above 100 ℃. They can also be used in some scenarios that require high temperature disinfection, such as microwave heating (please confirm that the product is marked as microwaveable), and will not easily deform or release harmful substances.
High chemical stability: It has good resistance to many chemical substances, such as common acids, bases, salt solutions, etc., and is not easily corroded. It can ensure that the storage box's structure and performance are not affected when storing corrosive items (such as cleaning agents).
Lightweight texture: The low density makes the PP material storage box lighter in weight, making it easy to transport and move. Even when filled with items, it will not be too heavy.
Moderate hardness and toughness: It has a certain hardness, can maintain shape stability, is not easily deformed, and has a certain toughness. It will not easily break when subjected to certain external impacts and has a long service life.
2. Polyethylene (PE)
Good low-temperature resistance: PE material can still maintain good flexibility in low-temperature environments and is not easily brittle, so it is suitable for use in cold environments, such as storing items in a refrigerator, and can function properly for storage.
Chemical stability: It has good tolerance to most chemicals, but compared to PP, its oil resistance is slightly inferior.
Non toxic and odorless: It is a safe and non-toxic plastic material commonly used for food packaging and storage. When used to make storage boxes for food and other items, it will not pose a threat to human health.
Transparency: Storage boxes made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) have lower transparency and appear semi transparent; High density polyethylene (HDPE) has lower transparency, but relatively higher hardness and strength.
3. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
High transparency: The plastic storage box made of PET material has high transparency, with a crystal clear appearance, making it easy to view the items inside the box. You can clearly know what is stored inside without opening it.
High strength: It has good tensile strength and impact resistance, can withstand certain pressure and collision, is not easily damaged, and can be used to store some heavy or hard objects.
Good gas barrier properties: It has a good barrier effect on oxygen, water vapor, etc., and can effectively prevent the items stored in it from getting damp or oxidized. It is suitable for storing some food, medicine, etc. that require moisture and oxidation prevention.
Not resistant to high temperatures: PET has poor heat resistance and generally cannot withstand excessively high temperatures. It is typically used within a temperature range of -20 ℃ to 60 ℃, beyond which deformation or release of harmful substances may occur.
4. Polystyrene (PS)
High transparency: The storage box made of PS material has a relatively high transparency, even higher than PET, with a beautiful appearance and clear display of internal items.
High hardness: With a hard texture, it can maintain a good shape after molding, is not easily deformed, has a smooth surface, and is easy to clean.
Not resistant to impact: Although it has high hardness, its toughness is poor and its impact resistance is not good. It is easy to break when subjected to external impact, so caution is needed during use and handling.
Not resistant to high temperatures: With low heat resistance, it can generally only be used in lower temperature environments. If the temperature is too high, it is prone to softening and deformation.
5. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer (ABS)
Good comprehensive performance: Combining the hardness of acrylonitrile, toughness of butadiene, and glossiness of styrene, it has good comprehensive performance, with high strength and hardness, as well as certain toughness, good impact resistance, and is not easy to crack.
Chemical corrosion resistance: It has good resistance to certain chemicals and can resist to a certain extent the erosion of acidic and alkaline chemicals.
Easy to process and shape: Various shapes of storage boxes can be made through various processing methods such as injection molding and extrusion, and the size is stable and the accuracy is high after molding.
Good surface treatment: It can be treated with electroplating, painting, printing and other surface treatments to make the appearance of the storage box more beautiful and meet different decorative needs.
